Whatever happens in life, no one should be held back from reaching their potential. Millions of refugees have arrived in Europe in recent years, many of whom have the skills, the passion and the resilience to be successful entrepreneurs. Integrating people through work is vital to welcoming them into broader society and will benefit all of us and our whole economies in the future. But refugees also face particular challenges when they start their journey to launch new businesses. Many find themselves confronted with complex regulations, a new culture and an unfamiliar business environment. Most lack the networks and resources for making their dream a reality. This new generation of entrepreneurs needs dedicated support.

Project Re-Start is designed to answer essential questions of refugees wanting to embark upon opening their own business. A comprehensive Manual and Website based on extensive research will be developed in the course of the project to give information and guidance to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers and support for operators who work with them. The following issues will guide the desk research:

1. NEEDS OF OPERATORS and IMMIGRANTS:

  • What are the main difficulties faced by operators concerning job guidance?
  • What could be done to improve the competencies of the operators on job guidance?
  • What are the main problems faced by immigrants during the research of a job?
  • What are the main problems faced by immigrants concerning a business start-up?

2. JOB MARKET

  • Analysis of the current National job market in each country involved.
  • How does the research of job takes?
  • What are the companies expectations?

3. MAPPING OF ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETENCIES

  • Which are the competencies required by an entrepreneur?
  • How can the operators support the immigrants to individuate them?
  • How can immigrants acquire them?

4. NATIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Recognition of National rule and legislation concerning the business start-ups;

5. FUNDING

  • Which kind of fundings exist at the EU and national level?
  • How can the immigrants apply?
  • Who can support them to apply?

6. SYSTEMATISATION

  • How can the above information be systematised in a practical Manual?
  • Could it be possible to create an Open educational resource?
